Matte Nails

I've been obsessed with matte nails for about a year now. I always see them when scrolling through my Tumblr dashboard and knew I needed them in my life - although I have not worn acrylic nails in almost a decade. I went to my nail shop two weeks ago excited for matte gray nails only to find out that my shop didn't carry any matte top coat. So, when I get to get my fills yesterday, I made it a point to bring my own matte polish. I hit up a local CVS and found Sally Hansen Big Matte Top Coat (retail: $5.99-$6.29) and Wet 'n' Wild Shine Matte Top Coat (retail: $0.99). Although I love Sally Hanson products and my gut often equates more expensive to better, I decided to compare to the to see if there really was a difference between price and value.

I think the Wet 'n' Wild Top Coat is pretty amazing. It mattified my nail perfectly. The Sally Hansen top coat didn't really mattify my nail color and it actually stripped the polish off my acrylic. That isn't a glare on the picture of my pointer; that is just good old white acrylic! I didn't even know top coat could do that. Needless to stay, I paid my $1.05 and walked out of CVS with the Wet 'n' Wild matte.

In order to celebrate today being the first day of Spring, I used OPI 'Ate Berries in the Canaries' for my nail color. When mattified, it reminds me of MAC Flat Out Fabulous (which I totally want to buy now). I absolutely adore the leather-y look of matte nails. I'm trying not to commit to wearing this shade all spring and summer but... don't be surprised if it becomes a thing, ok?

Happy first day of Spring!

Keyshia Cole x Steve Madden, Part Deux

I was pleasantly surprised by the first Keyshia Cole x Steve Madden collection when it dropped last fall so I'm glad they decided to bring their creative forces back together again for another set of shoes. The Spring/Summer line includes tons of fun bold prints, reflective accents, and neon colors. Check out a few snaps from the lookbook below.

Being the shoe-a-holic that I am, I've already made a short list of all the shoes in this collection I must acquire. But part of being a responsible adult is not getting ALL THE SHOES IN THE LAND so I think the KC-Maven in black (if I can find my size) will have to do. Nicole x Missguided

Nicole Scherzinger, of The Pussycat Doll and X-Factor fame, has released a sophisticated and sexy line in collaboration with UK retailer Missguided. The mostly minimalist collection features black and white pieces sprinkled with the occasional pop of cobalt. There is tons of leather, mesh, fishnet, panel, and bodycon pieces ranging from $35-$95.

I love all the different aesthetics that are covered in this collection. There is something for every level of mod, tomboy, vampy, and vixen you can imagine. I love how the pieces can be easily mixed and matched for a multitude of looks. I'm drooling over the two piece mesh and fishnet looks and the leather trousers so much.

Happy Shopping!

Plaid in the City

After obsessing over plaid pieces for weeks, I finally found an item I could commit to for my wardrobe. I settled on a pair of high waist plaid trousers which I think can be dressed up and dressed down fairly easily. Sneakers and tank here or peplum blazer and heeled sandals there. I decided to break in the slacks at brunch at Aperitivo while in Brooklyn this past weekend.

Don't you just love how a fur coat almost always makes you look overdressed and amazing no matter where you are? I feel like every lady needs a good fur something in her closet.

Fur and Florals

Even though Winter persists on being around, I've decided that maybe I can drive Spring into existence by bringing out all her florals, pastels, and pale shades out early. Perhaps a little encouragement is what she needs, no?

Mayer Hawthorne x Quadron

Last night, I had the awesome opportunity to check out Mayer Hawthorne and Quadron. I first heard of Hawthorne last year when a friend suggested I listen to his Where Does This Door Go album. I was in love with the record by the time I heard the second track. It is, easily, the best album of 2013. Check out his performance of Wine Glass Woman below.

Now, I never heard of Quadron until I bought the ticket. I opted out of researching them and decided to just let the concert be my first experience. I was blown away by lead singer Coco O's beautiful voice and range. She is really an awesome vocalist. And the band was equally awesome. I bought their album Avalanche during the show because I was just so convinced by the experience. Check out Quadron's cover of Ex-Factor below.

Awesome show with two exceptionally talented musical acts. Pretty sure this will be my favorite show for a while.
